Diet, Exercise and Weight Loss, The Fat Burning Secret (Part 2) :
The 400 calories that you burn on a machine may look big, but where do
those calories come from? Research suggests that long endurance
activities could actually cause muscle loss as your body struggles to
find calories to create energy, completely ignoring any fat stores in
your body. Your metabolism will suddenly decide to turn muscle into
energy, regardless of how much fat you have, after being in an endurance
state for a significant period of time. This is not what you want. That
muscle is a key metabolic component. Think of muscle as a foundation
for serious fat loss.
Muscle is in a constant battle to maintain
itself. This battle requires calories. The more muscle you have, the
more calories your body will burn throughout your day and night in order
to maintain or repair your muscle. Other body functions also have
calorie requirements. In fact, in a given 24 hour period, an average
person will burn upwards of 2000 calories (and a large portion of that
being from fat) simply by doing nothing. That's right! The calories that
you burn on an elliptical pale in comparison to the number of calories
you can burn simply by watching TV or lounging out on the deck all day.
What
you want to do is make your body even more calorie hungry. You want to
put your body into a state where in a 24 hour period, sustained calorie
requirements are even higher. This is possible. This is definitely
possible for anyone.
