Look in order to grow your muscles you need to break them and then feed them with good nutrition.
Using Heavy weights is recommended for maximum muscle growth but the same effect can be achieved through light weights by slow negatives...


slow negatives increases the time under which the muscle is in tension and thus leading to more muscle tear. So, Both are equally good for muscle building.
Moderately heavy between 8-12 reps is for building muscle.really heavy weights Between 4-6 reps is for building strength. Light weight 14+ reps is for cutting/toning muscles
