Amino acids (and in particular BCAAs, branched-chain amino acids) are among the essential dietary supplements for bodybuilding enthusiasts. This mixture of leucine, isoleucine and valine is indeed ideal to avoid muscle catabolism, accelerate your protein synthesis and therefore to gain muscle mass and physical strength. 


Your body does not produce naturally, you usually find them in animal protein. However, too much effort can reduce your BCAA rate by 20%, which is why it is worthwhile to supplement before, during and after your training sessions. In this form, amino acids also act much faster (passing directly into the bloodstream).

To choose your BCAA, consider their ratio of amino acids and preferred 2: 1: 1 (respectively for leucine, valine and isoleucine). Also prefer the flavored powders, the natural products being generally rather unpleasant to swallow.
