Strength Training for Women, Myths and Facts : 1 - Muscle growth takes place as a result of diet, not exercise

1 - Muscle growth takes place as a result of diet, not exercise :

While it is true that strength training is necessary for a muscle to grow, it isn't the act of lifting weights itself that cause's muscle growth. It is what you consume in your diet after lifting that counts. In order for your muscles to gain noticeable size you would have to consume a higher amount of calories than you are burning in a day and the majority of these excess calories would have to be from protein. Excess calorie consumption is the formula for weight gain of any kind, whether it is muscle weight or fat weight.

If you don't take in an excess of calories you won't be able to put on a significant amount of muscle weight, especially to the extent that you would look overly muscular. Females will increase muscle mass a to a lesser extent as a result of strength training, however, muscle mass requires more calories per day to maintain, which raises your resting metabolism or the amount of calories your body burns per day at rest. Therefore, having more muscle mass will actually help you achieve your weight loss and fitness goals in the long run.

👉 2 - Women don't have the same hormonal profile as men.
