3 - Managing stress :
Chronic stress is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Psychosocial stress is known to be responsible for one-third of myocardial infarction and 10% of stroke.
Explanations: Stress has a negative influence on all cardiovascular risk factors. Thus, it can promote or even aggravate high blood pressure, it increases the rate of "bad" cholesterol (LDL cholesterol) and the risk of diabetes, makes people fatter, encourages them to smoke more or be more sedentary. "To manage your stress, you must practice physical activity and also think about regularly using the cardiac coherence technique, a breathing method that has proven itself in stress management and cardiovascular prevention, by stimulating the heart nerve that protects us, called the vagus nerve," advises Professor Claire Mounier-Vehier, cardiologist at the CHRU de Lille and president of the French Federation of Cardiology (FFC).
