Lose Fat, Gain Muscle With Weight Training

I know what some of you are thinking. Me, doing weight training? No way! Well don't throw in the towel before you even pick it up. I'm a firm believer in weight training for men and women, young and old. Many people want to know how they can lose body fat but they don't want to lift any weight in the process. Why? They don't want to look like a bodybuilder with huge muscles and bulging veins, especially women. They just want to look lean and slimmed down. I completely understand.

Obviously a man and a woman's bodies are built differently. Women are not going to gain huge, gigantic muscles with weight training, if they do it properly. Not that women can't be a bodybuilders because they definitely can do so. It is very important for women to build muscle. Why? By building muscle you are going to increase your strength and be able to perform the exercises necessary to burn the body fat.



For women who are looking to be slim and fit, you should choose lighter weights and do more reps during your workout. For example, when I'm doing bicep curls I'll probably use 40 lb. dumbbells and do eight reps each set. Women should be using 10-15 lb. dumbbells and doing 15 reps per set. This will help you stay lean and build muscle.

Men are able to build muscle more easily and lose weight quicker. Not that we're better than women, it's just the way we're built. There have been times that I decided to shed some unwanted pounds and in no time it was gone. It makes my wife sick!

Men should lift heavier weights and do less reps if they want to add some bulk to their bodies. As you become stronger, you should begin to lift heavier weights. The heavier the weights you lift, the bigger you get. If you want to stay lean without all the bulk then use lighter weights and do more reps. This will help you gain muscle and lose fat.

Whether you're male or female, I encourage you to do some weight training at least every other day and I guarantee you will see improved results.
