There are a lot of fitness myths that people are taught. I'm not sure whether the person starting the myth just wanted to sound important, or just maybe, the individual might have just made a simple mistake. Whether myths were once simple mistakes or not, if you believe them, they will put a hold on your fitness goals timeline. Here are some that I believe are the most common that even I've been taught by superiors who are supposed to be much more educated than myself.
Women will get "man like" bulk from lifting weights: This is absolutely not true, and I continue to dispel this dumb rumor daily at my local YMCA. Women believe that their most dedicated intense effort will actually make them look like bodybuilders in magazines. Bodybuilders take amazing amounts of supplements, and have an amazing nutritional game plan before they even start lifting. Also, these same individuals will workout multiple times per day, ultimately making muscle-building their daily job. Please stop believing that your 2-3 days per week, 1-hour workouts will leave you looking like a woman that is dedicating 8-10 hours per day to building muscle. Average people won't put in the effort or receive the education necessary to be this successful. Remember also that women don't have the testosterone that a man does! So please rest easy, and give yourself manageable goals.
