A decade of dedicated, focused, bodybuilding and months of disciplined Spartan-like dieting went into preparing Coco Kissack's hardbody for the Ontario Provincials – only to be told she was four ounces overweight minutes before stage time!
Muscle mom Coco, 41, was in amazing shape and ready to do bodybuilding battle with the girls in the middleweight bodybuilder category at the Ontario Bodybuilding, Fitness, Bikini, Figure and Physique Championships 2013, which was held as part of the Toronto Pro Super Show
It was a category she was fully capable of winning.
But just 30 minutes before muscle showtime she discovered she was weighing 125.5lbs – a whole pound above the middleweight cut-off point of 124.5lbs.
Drastic measures were called for and Coco grabbed a garbage bag and ran in the midday sun in a desperate bid to sweat away the 16oz in half an hour.
She said: “I knew I had to cut the pound - they give you half an hour to make the weight so I put on a garbage bag and ran flat out in the heat. Then I puked, you name it, I tried it.
“When I weighed again I had dropped to 124.9lbs. I had missed my weight by four ounces so I got moved to the heavyweight category.
“I told the adjudicators 'if I had any water left in me I'd cry!' I was a bit dejected and it messed with my electrolytes and my carb-up was off because of the drastic measures i took to make middleweight!”
But this desperate story of every competitive female bodybuilder's nightmare has a happy ending!
Despite being pushed up to the womens bodybuilding heavies, Coco took second place AND she took second place in the masters category – meaning she qualifies for the 2013 CBBF CANADIAN BODYBUILDING CHAMPIONSHIPS, in Halifax, Nova Scotia on July 6.
