I still can’t believe there was a time in my life when “getting active” meant a winded walk up and down the street. My body has been pushed so far, it’s amazing what we can do 😭🙌🏼
Today I wanted to talk about why I decided to lose weight. In 2014, I decided to go to college. When I got there, everything was great, except for one thing.
I couldn’t fit in the desks.
I remember walking into my English class, as I looked around, I noticed the desks were very low to the ground. I weighed nearly 120 pounds at the age of 8 and was in a size 12 women’s jean).
Unwillingly, I lifted the arm to the desk and sat down. When I went to put the desk over me, it wouldn’t level. I realized then, that my stomach and legs were holding it at a slant. Feeling ashamed, I quickly tried to reposition my body. Nothing worked. Humiliation filled my mind as I looked around the classroom. “Did anyone see me?”
This was the worst feeling in the world. I felt suffocated and trapped, by my own body. I knew something needed to change. I remember going back to my dorm room, with tears in my eyes. I asked my Mom to call MGH in Boston. She got in touch with the adolescent weight loss clinic. 11 months later, I underwent gastric sleeve surgery. This was the BEST decision of my entire life.
