Strength training exercise has been proven to benefit all populations, from adolescents, to athletes to seniors. Women, in particular, see tremendous health benefits from strength training especially after the age of 35 when they are already on the slippery slope of declining muscle tissue and bone loss.
To avoid the metabolic sluggishness that occurs as women become older strength training can help keep the metabolism (the body's engine) running smoothly. This is dependent on rebuilding and maintaining the tissue that drives the metabolic rate - muscle tissue. When muscle tissue is toned and firm it burns more fuel (calories) day and night which helps keep the expanding waistline on many older women under control

Traditionally, women relied on cardio activity (walking, jogging or cycling) and a low calorie diet to change their physical appearance. We now know that diets have the opposite effect to what we want and slow the metabolism allowing the body to store more fat instead of burning it. Long, slow, low intensity activity and dieting makes change to ones body an impossible goal.
Research shows that strength training is absolutely essential if we wish to create visual changes in our bodies, and it has been proven over and over that the benefits of strength training extend far beyond the visual. The benefits extend from better sleep; to feeling better about ones self to using it as a de-stressing mechanism.
