Abdominal Training Exercises :

Abdominal Training Exercises
Are you looking for some abdominal training exercises? Do you want them to work? Let's talk a little bit about this because there seems to be some confusion about the subject.

People who work their abdominal muscles fall into two groups, those who have a few pound to lose and those who don't. For the people who have lost the weight ab exercises like sit ups and crunches, leg lifts, knee lifts, mountain climbers and bicycle lifts are effective. That's because they build muscle and increase your abdominal definition.

For people who have a few pounds to lose, ab specific exercises are worthless. This is because, while they build muscle, they don't burn enough calories to cause any significant weight loss. All your hard work will go unnoticed under a blanket of fat.

To truly reveal your abdominal muscles men need to reduce their body fat percentage to less than 10% and women need to be below 16%.

One of the best ways to get there is not running or any other cardio exercises but lifting weights. When you do cardio exercises you burn a lot of calories however, once the exercise is done so is the fat burning effect. When you lift weights you build muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat and, consequently, your body must work harder which burns more fat.

However, the types of exercises you do play a big part too. Exercises like the clean and jerk, military press, dumb bell snatches and others cause your body to go into a metabolic shock so that you are burning calories at a higher rate than you otherwise would have been for days after the workout. They also work your abs. If you don't believe me try some dumb bell swings. They look like they work your shoulders, but you'll feel it in the abs.
