In your opinion, is being a bodybuilder woman different from being a bodybuilder man?
First of all, it is important to remember that contrary to popular belief, men and women have very different motivations for practising this sport. However, I will answer your question in the affirmative by saying that what dominates men at the time of entering into practice is the fact of thinking that a bodybuildé body will allow a better foundation of the male identity. So it's something women know less about. On the other hand, when commitment progresses, the motivations come together: the idea of "forming a body" in a logic of apparent health research, and especially of self-control projects, within a society where traditional reference points are collapsing (especially work linked to employment) and new ones are multiplying, is found in both men and women.

In other words, being able to shape a body "object" that we control and that gives meaning to life for some seems to be somewhat different from the gendered dimension. Finally, living the bodybuilding as women can be more difficult than for a man because for the gendered reasons mentioned above, women will have to be able to "support" or even "justify" their physique in social relations. If this can constitute an additional source of motivation, it can also generate phenomena of stigmatization, identity withdrawal, even "forced normalization" observed very frequently during competitions: excessive make-up, breast prostheses,..., in short ostensible behaviours that "remind" that they are "good" women.
