Why can't you build muscle by working out? You neglect the eccentric part
You neglect the eccentric part :
Some still do not understand that to gain strength and mass, the negative (or eccentric) phase of each repetition is as important as the positive phase. Simply allowing the load to fall off its own weight can be particularly damaging. We often see practitioners drop the bar on their breasts using the effect of rebounding from the sternum to raise the bar. Not only is this dangerous, but it will eventually limit the strength because instead of letting the muscles do the work, we use the impulse to develop the load. To learn more about the negative, you can read our article on the negative repetition method.

Solution: Make sure that the return phase of each repetition lasts at least two seconds. It is not necessary to systematically count the number of seconds. As long as the charge is controlled from the beginning to the end of the series, there should not be any problem. By doing so, you will have an additional way to boost your progress.
