She became famous in the 1940s in the United States, especially during her bodybuilding demonstrations at Muscle Beach, a Santa Monica beach inaugurated in 1934 which has become the birthplace of fitness, known today as Venice Muscle Beach.

With her husband, she initially worked as a gymnast and then established herself as a strong woman, practicing weightlifting outdoors on the beach.

She helped popularize the sport with the female public, at a time when building muscle was an activity reserved for men.

From 1944, Abbye Stockton regularly wrote articles in a magazine dedicated to physical health, Strength & health magazine, the most influential magazine in the world of fitness at the time.

More broadly, Abbye Stockton was one of the ambassadors of what has been called the American way of life: playing sports outdoors, a stone's throw from the ocean, in complete freedom.

In 2000, his name appeared on the wall of fame of the international bodybuilding and fitness federation.
