You don't need to go to a gym at all in order to lose weight; in fact, exercise is an inefficient way to lose weight. The simplest, fastest, least expensive, and most effective way to lose weight is to change eating habits. It's important to understand though that changing eating habits is not necessarily the same as dieting. Dieting is generally viewed as a temporary measure to lose weight. The problem is that after dieting, most people put the weight right back on. To lose weight and keep it off you simply need to consume fewer calories than you burn until you reach your desired weight, and then be careful not to go back to eating more calories than necessary to maintain your weight. It should go without saying that physical activity is absolutely necessary to stay healthy during and after weight loss, but that activity doesn't have to be gym-style workouts. Just think about how active kids are and try to be like a kid; adults spend too much time sitting or otherwise being inactive.
