YES. As we age, we lose 5% on average muscle mass after age 50. Not staying in good physical shape can cause other issues because muscle protects the skeletal system. Being physically fit in older age promotes better mental health as well as how we want to look in clothing, 


have more energy to enjoy life, etc. For me personally, I am way more physically active at almost 67 than I was at 61. I walk on average 5 miles a day and work out at the gym to not only keep my muscle mass , but to build up on it so I stay healthy well into my 70's.
