Dumbbell Buying Tips, Avoid These Mistakes I Made (Part 2) :

Tips on Buying Dumbbell Sets { forDumbbell Exercises }

1. Buy two dumbbells and not just one

This is an obvious one. But nevertheless worth reminding. Most of the exercises, especially compound ones are done two sides at a time.

2. Buy adjustable dumbbells

Just like I mentioned above, avoid the mistake. Although fixed weight dumbbells are easier to use, adjustable dumbbells come with locks on either sides and plates can be added as required. This allows for progressive resistance, so crucial for seeing weight lifting results.

Note - Initially it might seems, especially to a beginner that fixed weight dumbbells are big enough but believe me from experience that you will in no time get stronger and WIL need bigger ones. Listen to someone who went from 98 lbs to 180!.

3. Buy weight plates additionally

The best way for most people I train is to have a set of 3-4 plates in the order below.

Two pairs of 10 lb, 5 lb, 2.5 and 1 lb plates.

If you are an experienced trainer and are working out at home temporarily then you may be used to spotters who help you with last reps and negative reps.
I have found that micro-magnets are available which help add those small incremental weights. A bodybuilder does know the importance of these microweights.

Additional Tips for
Weight Training at Home
