The next thing you need to determine is what your levels of motivation and commitment are. Will you be motivated enough on your own to exercise in your home (whether you use weights or not)? Most people that decide to exercise without weights are working out at home, usually alone. Do you have the motivation to do this and continue for the long haul?

Another aspect to consider when trying to decide if building muscles without weights if for you is that research shows us that incorporating a weight lifting routine into your workout regiment causes your bodies metabolic rate to increase moreso than if you don't workout with weights. what this means is that your body will continue to burn more calories for longer periods of time if you are weightlifting along with proper diet and cardiovascular exercise. This can help you lose weight more quickly.


Some people will shy away from weightlifting because they think they will look like a professional bodybuilder when they are through, especially the females. This is not true. Professional bodybuilders look the way they do because they dedicate the majority of their time to working out. They make a lot of sacrifices to look that way. Certainly genetics play a role in the way their physiques are. I'm not saying that all competitive bodybuilders use anabolic steroids but many do and their massive physiques, both male and female are a result of steroid use.

You should also consider the intensity of the workout. You can train with high intensity using your own body weight. As you get stronger and your muscles accommodate to the resistance you are placing on them you will have to find other ways to challenge your muscles to grow. You have to come up with more creative body weight exercises or you have to add weights.

Building muscle without weights is not impossible but there are several factors you need to consider when deciding if this is for you or not. These include your goals, your level of motivation, how quickly you want to lose weight or build muscle, and how intense you can make your workouts.
