Question
Is it okay to go straight into another set without a 1 minute or 3 to 4 minute rest period?

Just wondering if it’s harmful to the muscles if I do this because when i have a training partner, we typically go thru the set reps very quickly without resting.

For example, as soon as he is done with his set, I go into my set without a significant resting period against what BLS book suggest.

If you are reaching 80-85% 1RM. It should be fatiguing enough to where you need to take some rest. The whole point of rest is to recover enough energy for the next set.

In the NASM CPT manual it says something along the lines of one minute recovers 65%, 2 minutes 85%, and 3 minutes 100% energy(ATP).

Now this is all relative. Some people have higher work capacity than others through years of training. You just want to gauge how you feel. Let your heart rate, and breathing settle. If I’m doing heavy sets. It usually takes me about 2-3 minutes to feel ready enough for the next one. Which is the typical recommendation for strength training.
